Exactly three years ago, the Bharatiya Janata Party won a massive mandate in general elections 2014 by winning 282 seats.

New Delhi, May 16: Exactly three years ago, the Bharatiya Janata Party won a massive mandate in general elections 2014 by winning 282 seats. The Congress party was decimated as they managed to get just 44 seats, the lowest number of seats since independence. Ten days after the win, Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the country.
After the elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party carried the momentum of the win with successive victories in Haryana and Maharashtra. Despite losses in Bihar and Delhi, the party won state elections and formed governments in unchartered territories. This includes the three north-eastern states. Recently, it formed governments in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Manipur. The policies of the government had a direct impact on these poll results. But that doesn't mean all the policies of the government were spot on.
Employment: One of the massive poll planks for Narendra Modi during his campaign was the pitiable condition of the economy. The leader targetted the Manmohan Singh government for destroying growth rate due to policy paralysis. He would also slam the UPA 2 government for lamentable economic indicators. After assuming the post of Prime Minister, Modi removed many bureaucratic bottlenecks and streamlined processes. However, even after three years of being in governance, the Modi government has not been able to spur job growth. The government gives massive numbers as to other things--but no empirical numbers have been given regarding job creation. If the investment is happening, if the country is growing by 7 clicks per quarter, why there is a low rate of job creation?

Black money: The Modi government has done many good things to curb black money. However, it has not been able to do much to bring in black money stashed in off-shore accounts. There was no clarity on the impact of demonetisation move announced by Narendra Modi. The government said it would break the back of parallel economy and it would also completely decimate terrorism and militancy in Kashmir and Naxal-infested areas. However, nothing of that sort happened. The domestic money was in the account, however, nothing much happened to off-shore players. Experts believe demonetisation hit the poor people hard. The government has been giving data as to consolidation of money in the domestic market. However, the government's warnings didn't bring back a significant amount. Modi government's tall promises have not been fulfilled.
Kashmir Unrest: Modi government had been talking about the repeal of Article 370 before elections. However, despite forming the government in alliance with the PDP in the state, they couldn't move in the direction. Moreover, they are not being able to control the law and order situation in the Valley after militant Burhan Wani's death. After months-long unrest in 2016 that saw scores of local Kashmiris killed, 2017 is also witnessing a similar situation. Due to the unrest, the Election Commission had to cancel Anantnag byelections. Despite the setback, the government is unrelenting and is unwilling to talk to separatists. The Modi government so far has not spelled out its strategy to bring lasting peace in the Valley.
